Hair and Eyebrow Transplantation

Hair repair surgery offers a permanent solution for restoration of lost hairs. With novel hair transplant surgeries, the lost hairs can be repaired and alternated or reformed. This is achieved using the naturally growing hairs of the same person. The most important factor in a hair transplant surgery is to achieve the desired specifications without any significant signs of treatment. The recent developments in the few past decades has been very effective for enabling one to have a natural hair. At the moment, using tiny grafts, most amount of the hair can be extracted and transplanted.

Hair transplant includes using the natural hair of the back or sides of the head (donor site). Then using a microscope, the tissue is divided into unit follicle grafts (containing 1-4 hair strands) and follicle grafts with a few units (containing 3-6 hair strands). After that, these smaller grafts are planted carefully in the to a bald part of hair or any part of the head skin which has been thinned (recipient site), such that none of the existing follicles in that area would get any damage.

 Mostly two methods are used in the field of hair transplantation, Follicular Isolation Technique (FIT) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT). The main difference between these two is in the extraction of the follicle units. In FUT a strip of skin, along with the hairs on it is removed from the back of the head. In this case, the hair follicles are being extracted simultaneously, but in FIT approach, the follicle units are individually removed from the head skin.

The method incorporated to extract the hairs is one of the most important factors in hair transplantation. The focus is not on getting as many grafts as possible, rather the quality of the hair roots is important, since this will determinatively matter in the survival of the grafts. One of the dominant characteristics of both methods is the extraction of the smallest unit of natural hair or follicular units (FU) of hairs.

Size of the punch needles play an important role in the FIT method. Actually, selecting a properly sized needle will reduce the damage taken by the donor site to the minimum and the hair extraction will be less observable. After extraction, the hair roots have to carefully prepared and planted. This stage is the same in both methods.

Treatment of the hair loss

Injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a new technological solution which exploits the compounds got from blood in order to rebuild the skin and rejuvenate the collagens. These compounds are in a part of your blood, known as “platelet-rich plasma”. Actually, PRP is enriched with platelets, stem cells and growth factors.
